Program that conducts conversations in natural language – now mostly AI-based.
Definition
A chatbot is a program that conducts conversations in natural language. While early chatbots were rule-based and gave hard-coded responses, modern chatbots use large language models to understand and respond to freely formulated input. Chatbots are used for customer service, information retrieval, and as assistants. Well-known examples include ChatGPT or the Claude chatbot.
