EU AI Act

First comprehensive AI regulation of the European Union with a risk-based approach.

Definition

The EU AI Act is the first comprehensive legal regulation of artificial intelligence by the European Union. It classifies AI systems into risk categories: from "minimal" to "unacceptable." High-risk systems – in medicine, justice, or education, for example – are subject to strict requirements such as transparency, human oversight, and documentation. The AI Act is considered a model for AI regulation worldwide and also affects Swiss companies active in the EU.
