How it works

Application

Write or copy the text into the chat input field. Press the Enter key or click on the send icon – and Gendy will start converting the text into a gender-appropriate version.

Would you like to have gendered text rewritten as traditional text? Just tell Gendy (e.g. like this:“Write it traditionally.“)

Too many stars? Tell Gendy (e.g. like this:“Can you do it without asterisks?“,“Try colon“, etc.).

No text at hand? Here is a sample to try out

In a sports club, the coach is the one who leads and motivates the team. A good coach recognizes the potential of his players and promotes their talents. The coach plans the training and develops strategies to lead the team to success. The players rely on the experience and knowledge of their coach to achieve their sporting goals.

Building bridges

Why Gendy?

After the vote on 24.11.24 it is clear: 57% of Zurich residents want the city administration to “gender” official texts.

Gender* divides (not only) the people of Zurich. We at Evoya AI want to build bridges. That’s why we created Gendy, the gender agent.

This is how Gendy helps all Zurich residents:

  • Gendy helps the 57% of Zurich residents who support the gender star and translates traditional texts into gender-neutral texts
  • Gendy also helps the 43% of Zurich residents who reject the gender star and translates gendered texts into traditional texts

Of course, Gendy also helps all other Swiss people to translate from and into gender-neutral language.

Methodology

The methodology for determining and implementing gender-equitable spelling, which is used in the gender agent Gendy, is based on the scientific study “Gender-equitable German language from a non-native speaker’s perspective: An online survey with Finnish German speakers” by Marie-Theres Friedl. This study provides insights into the use and acceptance of gender-equitable language, especially from the perspective of non-native German speakers. These findings have helped us to configure Gendy so that it can switch effectively between traditional and gender-neutral language variants.
